- Deal Worth Over €50M
- Erik Ten Hag Convinced The Argentine
Erik Ten Hag has convinced Lisandro Martinez to move to Manchester this summer following extensive talks with Ajax on Wednesday. Martinez will be in Manchester for his medicals before signing the contract with The Red Devils.
Manchester United will pay €55M (add-ons included) for the Argentine defender who was voted Ajax’s best player last season.
Arsenal also courted Martinez, however, Manchester United were able to out-bid the Gunners who valued the Argentine at around €40M. Erik Ten Hag convinced Martinez to choose Manchester United and become a part of his new project at the club.
Lisandro Martinez is a ball-playing defender who can play as a central defender and a Left-back. Martinez has also performed well when deployed in central midfield. He is known for his fantastic range of passing. The Argentine defender averaged more passes per 90 than any other player in the Eredivisie last season.
The 24-year-old will fit the style of play Ten Hag is trying to build and implement at Old Trafford. Despite his height, Martinez has shown that he can compete at the highest level. His performances for Ajax in the UEFA Champions League prove that he can be useful in a difficult and competitive league like the Premier League.
Manchester United are not done with their transfer moves yet, after closing Martinez’s deal, the club will look to complete the signing of Frenkie de Jong. The Dutchman still wants to remain in Barça, but after the club agreed with United, they could force De Jong to reconsider his stance.
