- Reds Holds Arsenal to put a dent on Gunner’s title hopes
Liverpool 2-2 Arsenal. Title chasing Arsenal were lucky to have escaped with a point in a gripping draw at Anfield to wrap up EPL matchweek 30, with Roberto Firmino scoring a late equalizer to dent the Gunners’ title hopes.
Arsenal had taken a 2-0 lead in the first half through Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus, who both combined for a goal and an assist each. Martinelli opened the scoring with a low shot past Alisson after a swift counter-attack, and then set up Jesus with a precise cross after another breakaway.
Liverpool pulled one back before the break when Mohamed Salah pounced on a loose ball in the box and fired past Aaron Ramsdale. The Reds dominated the second half and had a real chance to level early in the second half. Rob Holding fouled Diogo Jota in the penalty area, but Salah missed from the spot.
Liverpool kept pushing for an equalizer and were rewarded in the 88th minute when Firmino rose high to head in a cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Arsenal held on for a point that keeps them six points clear of second-placed Manchester City, who have a game in hand and still have to face the Gunners at the Etihad Stadium. Liverpool remain eighth in the table, 12 points behind fourth-placed Manchester United. The Reds will hope that this comeback gives them some momentum for the rest of the season, while Arsenal will rue their missed opportunity to extend their lead at the top.
