Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign 24-year-old Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong. The Manchester City academy graduate will join the Reds in a £30 million deal. Frimpong will sign a five-year contract after he completes his medical with Liverpool this week, as the club sees him as the perfect replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Jeremie Frimpong has been brilliant for Leverkusen since he joined the Bundesliga side in 2021. The Dutchman has developed his game immensely under Xabi Alonso to become one of the most sought-after full-backs in the world.

Frimpong resembles Alexander-Arnold as a modern-day full-back who shines in attack, but his attacking style differs from what Trent Alexander-Arnold has offered Liverpool over the past seven years.

In 190 appearances for Leverkusen since he joined the club in 2021, Jeremie Frimpong has scored 30 goals and assisted his teammates 44 times. In the Bundesliga alone, he has scored 23 and assisted 28.

Alexander-Arnold delivers pinpoint crosses into the box and impresses with his shooting and dangerous deliveries. However, Frimpong carries the ball into dangerous areas far more often than Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Frimpong excels at dribbling forward and putting in cutbacks inside the box for strikers and midfielders. He plays more or less like a winger when he pushes forward.

It will be interesting to see how he links up with Salah on Liverpool’s right-hand side, as Frimpong is known for his pace and trickery in attack, just like the Egyptian superstar.

Liverpool aim to improve their squad further this summer. They also plan to sign a left-back, centre-back, and possibly a striker as they aim to build on their Premier League-winning team.
