Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk has signed a new deal with the Merseyside club, the club confirms. The Dutch defender will remain at the club until the summer of 2027. Van Dijk’s announcement comes just days after Mohamed Salah signed a new two-year deal with the league leaders, also extending his stay until 2027.

Speculation had surrounded the Dutchman’s future, with his contract set to expire at the end of this campaign. PSG reportedly showed interest in bringing the 33-year-old to France, and Barcelona wanted him as well. However, Van Dijk insists Liverpool has always been his first choice.
Van Dijk The Adopted Scouser
“It was always Liverpool. That was the case. It was always in my head, it was always the plan and it was always Liverpool.
“There wasn’t any doubt in my head that this is the place to be for me and my family. I’m one of Liverpool. Someone called me the other day an adopted Scouser – I’m really proud to hear these things, it gives me a great feeling.”
“I’m very happy, very proud,” “There are so many emotions obviously that go through my head right now speaking about it. It’s a proud feeling, it’s a feeling of joy. It’s just incredible. The journey I’ve had so far in my career, to be able to extend it with another two years at this club is amazing, and I’m so happy.”

Van Dijk joined Liverpool in January 2018, and since then he has established himself as one of the best defenders of the modern era. He has played in three Champions League finals, winning one. The Dutchman has also lifted the Premier League title, the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, and both domestic cups.
The Reds sit just a few wins away from claiming their second Premier League title and their 20th overall league crown. Despite their age, Liverpool sees it as vital to continue with their two most important players.
