Liverpool have initiated talks with Newcastle to sign Swedish striker Alexander Isak.
The Reds want to bring in a main striker this summer, as they expect Darwin Núñez to leave the club, with Napoli and clubs in Saudi Arabia showing interest in the Uruguayan.
The Merseyside club aims to add more firepower to their squad, especially after the painful loss of attacker Diogo Jota.
They have already broken the English transfer record this summer by signing German superstar Florian Wirtz. The Reds paid £116 million for the 22-year-old German midfielder, and they might break their own record again in the same summer by going all out for £120 million rated Alexander Isak.
Isak has become a household name in the Premier League over the past three years. He has been directly involved in 73 goals since joining Newcastle (62 goals 11 assists).
Isak has often expressed his love for Newcastle but has confirmed in the past that a move to a team capable of challenging for the UEFA Champions League trophy could tempt him away from Tyneside. Liverpool want to defend their Premier League title and challenge for the Champions League this coming season, and they have made it a priority to add a top striker like Alexander Isak to their ranks.
Meanwhile, Newcastle have opened talks with Eintracht Frankfurt for the signing of Hugo Ekitiké – A player Liverpool hope to sign if they fail to sign Alexander Isak. The German club values the Frenchman at £80 million, but Newcastle hope to negotiate a lower fee, as they have been following the lanky French striker even before signing Alexander Isak.
