- Manchester City Cut Arsenal’s Lead To 2 Points With an Emphatic 4-1 win over the Gunners At The Etihad
Manchester City 4-1 Arsenal – Match Report – The build up to this game made it seem like the most important Premier League match of the season so far, and that was exactly how Manchester City approached the game. The defending champions attacked the game like a team looking to win back their title, and they got the reward quite early.
Pep Guardiola’s tactical set-up allowed Kevin De Bruyne more space down the middle and more freedom, with more pressing work for the ever-willing Bernardo Silva. With his extra yard of space tonight, Kevin De Bruyne wrecked havoc on Arsenal’s defence, collaborating with Erling Haaland.
The party started in the 7th minute for the Citizens. Premier League top scorer, Erling Haaland, turned provider when he chested the ball down and released Kevin De Bruyne who had enough space to find the bottom right corner, beating Ramsdale to open the scoring. Another Haaland to De Bruyne link-up goal could have happened in the 26th minute, but a timely block by Ben White kept Arsenal in the game.
The Gunners were not allowed enough space to create much, and star-man Bukayo Saka was kept quiet. City found the second just before half-time when John Stones powered a header from a Kevin De Bruyne delivery past Aaron Ramsdale.
City were cruising at this point, and just 10 minutes after the break, Haaland set up De Bruyne again to put the game beyond the Gunners.
Although Rob Holding got Arsenal a goal back in the 86th minute, but Haaland made sure he got his goal to round up a fantastic performance by the defending Champions.
Arsenal’s Title Hopes Almost Over
While The Gunners have shown quality throughout this season, but their title dreams might just be over after their defeat at the Etihad. The Gunners are still on top of the League table, but only hold a 2-point advantage on City despite playing two games more.
Manchester City will go four points clear if they win their two outstanding matches, and with just 5 matches to go, the Gunners would be praying for a rare slip-up by the Mancunians to once again have a realistic shot at securing their first Premier League title in almost 20 years.
