Manchester City’s long-running financial case has finally reached a major turning point, with the club reportedly found guilty of 114 of the 115 charges brought against them by the Premier League.
The charges, which date back to 2009, have followed Manchester City for years, with the Premier League accusing the club of failing to provide accurate financial information, breaching financial rules and failing to cooperate with investigations.
The Premier League first referred City to an independent commission in February 2023 after a four-year investigation into the club’s finances. The hearing eventually began in September 2024 and concluded after examining the extensive allegations against the club.
Manchester City Still Believe They Are Innocent
Manchester City have consistently denied the allegations and have maintained their position throughout the case.
Following reports of the verdict, the club stated that the Premier League process remains ongoing and that significant elements still need to be completed. City are also expected to appeal the reported findings.
The verdict does not immediately mean Manchester City will receive a points deduction, lose titles or leave the Premier League.
The independent commission still has to determine any sanctions, while the expected appeal could prolong the case even further. Potential punishments under the Premier League rules include financial penalties, points deductions and, in the most severe circumstances, expulsion from the league.
For now, the biggest development is that an independent panel has reportedly found City guilty of almost all the charges after years of investigation.
However, the final outcome of one of the biggest financial cases in Premier League history is still not completely settled.
