Ousmane Dembele is close to joining Chelsea if reports online are to be believed. The Barcelona star looks like he will leave the Spanish giants this season, and Chelsea are leading the race to sign him. Ousmane Dembele is a good player, however he might not be exactly what Chelsea need.

The Blues finished third in the Premier League last season as they fell short of Liverpool and Manchester City. Stats showed that Chelsea attack didn’t do enough, Thomas Tuchel is in the market to improve the attack, but signing Dembele might not be the right way to go.

Dembele might not be right for Chelsea

Injuries

The obvious reason. Ousmane Dembele has missed more games for Barcelona than any other player since 2017 because of his recurring injuries. Chelsea already have wingers with similar problems.

Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, and Callum Hudson Odoi have all had injury problems in recent seasons for Chelsea. Adding a player with an injury history like Ousmane Dembele is not exactly what Chelsea needs, especially with the physicality of the Premier League.

Chelsea have Similar Profiles At The Club

Ousmane Dembele is one of the most dangerous wingers in the world, especially on the counter-attack.He was known for that at Borussia Dortmund and his early days at Rennes. Chelsea already have players like that in Callum Hudson Odoi and Christian Pulisic

Thomas Tuchel’s Style At Chelsea

At Dortmund, Thomas Tuchel built his squad to attack with immense pace. With the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Marco Rues, and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. However, at Chelsea it is not quite the same.

Chelsea build up slowly under the German tactician. Chelsea’s style of play allows opposition to alway sit deep and defend. Ousmane Dembele is not best suited to playing against low blocks. He is more efficient when he is running at defenders, or on counter-attacks.

In Conclusion, his profile is not exactly what Chelsea need right now. The Blues have problems with creativity, the need someone in the mode of Kevin De Bruyne, or Cesc Fabregas and not another injury-prone winger.
