- Arsenal escape defeat at Anfield, Chelsea lose again, and Crystal Palace hit 5th heaven
The big game of the weekend was undoubtedly Arsenal’s trip to Anfield to face Liverpool. Anfield has become something of a haunted house for the Gunners, having not won a game there since 2012.
Although they started the game like a house on fire, taking a two-goal lead, ‘the spirit of Anfield’ took over and if Mohamed Salah had been more clinical from the spot, Arteta’s men would have been put away.
Man City stayed on Arsenal’s heels with a clinical 4-1 win over Southampton at St Mary’s. Erling Haaland scored twice, the second of which was a quite majestic finish.
The battle for the top four remains heated, with Tottenham, Newcastle and Manchester United all navigating tricky games and coming away with all three points.
Chelsea, always in the news these days. After appointing Frank Lampard on an interim basis, the Blues made sure to give him the perfect welcome back party with a lethargic display and deserved defeat at the hands of a valiant Wolves side fighting for their lives.
The result leaves Chelsea in 11th place with pretty much nothing left to play for on the domestic front. Their only chance of any real success this season comes in the form of the UEFA Champions League, and they must navigate a double header with Real Madrid first. Not an exciting prospect if you’re a Chelsea fan.
Relegation Battle
Lastly, down at the bottom, Leicester City seem to be in serious trouble. A defeat at home to Bournemouth is about as low as things can get. You really fear for the Foxes at this point in time.
Oh, Villa might actually be good, can you believe that? Steven Gerrard had everyone thinking they were relegation candidates. Sometimes, changing the coach can be a good thing. Ask Crystal Palace fans.
