Another exciting weekend saw Arsenal maintain their lead over Manchester City at the top of the Premier League following an emphatic 4-1 victory at home to Leeds on Saturday afternoon.
Man City had demolished Liverpool by the same scoreline earlier in the day thanks to a Jack Grealish masterclass, and the Gunners needed to respond. City proved they can compete without injured goal-machine, Erling Haaland, and have at least sent a warning to Arsenal that they will not be giving up their crown without a fight.
In the top 4/6 battle, Newcastle gave themselves renewed hope of Champions League football next season after a thoroughly brilliant 2-0 win over Manchester United in front of a raucous home support. United offered next to nothing, and fans must be concerned at how poor the performance was.
We had two managerial sackings this weekend too, Brendan Rodgers finally paid the price for Leicester’s lackluster season and their slide into the relegation places.
Chelsea lost again, this time to Aston Villa, at home to prompt thousands of supporters frantically asking for Graham Potter to be sacked. Todd Boehly and the Chelsea heirachy finally made the move on Sunday night, ending Potter’s torrid spell.
Finally, the relegation battle remains as tight as ever. It was a good return to the Selhurst Park dugout for Roy Hodgson, with the 75-year-old masterminding a 2-1 comeback win for Crystal Palace against Leicester.
Bournemouth also came from behind to beat mid-table Fulham 2-1 at the Vitality Stadium to keep their survival hopes, well and truly alive.
Arsenal need to keep winning games, they are so close to the title now..
