Real Madrid were brilliant in their 2-0 win over Sevilla at the Bernabéu on Saturday night. Los Blancos cut the gap at the top of the table to just one point, at least until Barcelona play, thanks to a standout performance from Rodrygo, goals from Jude Bellingham, and a penalty converted by Kylian Mbappé.

After a shaky midweek result against lowly Talavera, Real Madrid needed a top performance at home against Sevilla, and that was exactly what they delivered in the club’s final La Liga game of the year.

Xabi Alonso’s side were good in the first half, as they created openings that led directly to three big chances and two shots on target. Jude Bellingham’s header in the 38th minute opened the scoring. Los Blancos also restricted Sevilla to zero shots on target in the first half.

Sevilla responded in the second half and created better openings after the break. However, Thibaut Courtois was on hand to thwart all five shots on target that Sevilla managed.

Mbappé missed a couple of chances in the first half, and his header hit the crossbar in the second half, as Real Madrid carved out chances brilliantly throughout the night. The Frenchman later scored from the spot to seal the win.

Rodrygo Was Brilliant Against Sevilla

At the heart of everything in attack was Rodrygo Goes. The Brazilian has been much maligned this season because of his shaky and inconsistent performances. Rodrygo created six chances for Real Madrid against Sevilla, including three big chances, and he also won a penalty late in the game, which Kylian Mbappé converted.

By scoring against Sevilla, Kylian Mbappé equalled Ronaldo’s record of 59 goals in a Calendar year for Real Madrid.

Los Blancos closed the gap at the top of the table to just one point ahead of Barcelona’s match against Villarreal on Sunday. If Barcelona drop points, it would provide a brilliant boost for Madrid’s La Liga title hopes
