- The Italian has been sacked after interview meltdown a week ago
Tottenham Sack Antonio Conte – The Premier League side have sacked the former Chelsea and Inter Milan manager, one week after his disastrous post-match interview. Assistant manager Stellini will be in charge till the end of the season.
Antonio Conte was left frustrated after his side lost a 2 goal lead against relegation favourites Southampton last week. He lashed out in the Post match interview, calling his players out and condemning the mentality at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Italian called his players selfish, accusing them of not wanting to help each other on the pitch. He went on to comment on the club’s mentality, claiming that players at the club do not want to play under pressure, and that is the reason why the club have not won anything in years.
Daniel Levy, the club chairman, rallied the players and the fans after the sacking:
“We have 10 Premier League games remaining, and we have a fight on our hands for a Champions League place. We all need to pull together. Everyone has to step up to ensure the highest possible finish for our Club and amazing, loyal supporters.”
Tottenham, with 28 matches played, are 4th on the Premier League table, only 2 points above Newcastle who have played 2 games fewer.
