The second matchday of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League has given us plenty to talk about, with some of Europe’s biggest clubs making statements and others showing reasons for concern.

Barcelona look like one of the most exciting teams in Europe right now, but defending champions PSG are not far behind after an impressive victory at Manchester City.

Barcelona Look Like the Complete Package

Barcelona’s 4-1 victory away at Galatasaray was arguably the most convincing performance of Matchday 2. Despite falling behind in a difficult atmosphere in Istanbul, Hansi Flick’s men showed exactly why they remain one of the most dangerous attacking teams in Europe.

Their movement, quick passing, pressing and ability to create chances made Galatasaray look completely overwhelmed, particularly in the second half.

Lamine Yamal was outstanding, providing two assists in the space of three minutes as Barcelona turned the game around. If Barcelona maintain this level, they will be difficult to stop.

PSG Are Right Behind Barcelona

Manchester City against PSG was arguably the biggest fixture of the matchday, and the French champions came out on top with a 4-2 victory at the Etihad.

PSG showed that they remain a frightening proposition in Europe, combining their attacking quality with the ability to punish opponents who give them space.

City fought back through Erling Haaland, but PSG had too much quality on the night. The defending champions look ready to defend their crown.

Atletico Madrid Expose Manchester United Again

Atletico Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Manchester United was another reminder that United still have plenty of problems to solve.

Pablo Barrios scored inside the opening minute before Ademola Lookman sealed the victory. United struggled to impose themselves, while Atletico looked organised, aggressive and comfortable controlling the game.

Real Madrid Still Find a Way

Real Madrid produced one of the most entertaining performances of the matchday, coming from 3-1 down to defeat Roma 4-3.

Two goals from Donyell Malen pushed Gasperini’s men to a 3-1 lead in the second half, but Real Madrid scored 3 goals from set-pieces late in the last 7 minute of the game to record another classic win.

It was another reminder that writing off Madrid in the Champions League is rarely a good idea.

Aston Villa also made a statement with a 6-0 demolition of Fenerbahce, while Bayern Munich surprisingly dropped points in a 3-3 draw against Viking.

Barcelona currently look like the slickest team in Europe, but PSG are showing that they have the quality to challenge anyone.
