Why Man Utd Are Making the Right Choice with Michael Carrick

Manchester United are set to open formal discussions with Michael Carrick over becoming their permanent head coach. It looks like a smart and well-earned decision.

Since replacing Ruben Amorim on an interim basis in early January, the 44-year-old has transformed the mood and results at Old Trafford. Carrick has collected an impressive 33 points from 15 Premier League matches, the best record of any team in the division during that period. He has guided United from 7th place to 3rd, all but securing Champions League football for next season with two games to spare.

Beyond the numbers, Carrick has restored the feel-good factor around the club. Players and fans have visibly bought into his methods, and he has shown strong man-management by restoring Kobbie Mainoo as a regular starter after the midfielder was sidelined under Amorim.

His calm, composed presence in front of the media has also been a refreshing change. While the hierarchy, led by director of football Jason Wilcox and CEO Omar Berrada, were initially concerned about his relative inexperience, Carrick’s results have eased those doubts. By the end of the season, he will have managed United in 20 games across two spells.

Rather than searching for another big-name manager, United appear ready to reward the man who has delivered stability, improved performances, and renewed belief. In a turbulent period for the club, backing Carrick feels like the most logical and justified move.
