- Manchester United Have Announced The Signing Of Matheus Cunha From Wolves
- We Take A Look At Why His Style Fits Manchester United With or Without Ruben Amorim
Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Matheus Cunha for £62.5 million from Wolves on a five-year contract. The Brazilian will join Ruben Amorim’s side this summer, as the club prepares for a summer of rebuilding and restructuring on and off the pitch.

Cunha signed for Wolves initially on loan from Atlético Madrid in January 2023, but he made the move permanent in the summer. The Brazilian has impressed for Wolverhampton Wanderers since the start of the 2023/24 campaign.
Many view his signing as just a statement move by Manchester United following a disastrous campaign, but here are a few reasons why Matheus Cunha fits Manchester United Football Club like a glove:
Fits Ruben Amorim’s System
At Sporting Lisbon, Ruben Amorim favoured an effective 3-4-2-1 system that allowed him to field “two number 10s.” The Portuguese manager often played Trincão and Pedro Gonçalves behind a very mobile striker like Viktor Gyökeres.

With Cunha, he can now replicate that system at Manchester United, given how dangerous the Brazilian can be alongside Bruno Fernandes—with both of them playing behind a new striker or a player like Joshua Zirkzee, who can also swap positions with Cunha to further confuse opponents.
Premier League Proven
Critics doubted Cunha in La Liga, but he has proven himself as someone who can lift a team in the Premier League.

The Brazilian has driven Wolves forward for much of this season and the last. He has consistently won matches for Wolves almost singlehandedly. Cunha has directly contributed to 47 goals in the Premier League since joining Wolves, and that is a significant percentage for a club that has struggled for most of the last three seasons.
Versatile and Efficient

Cunha can slot in as a left-winger, play as a center forward, and operate most efficiently as a second striker or an advanced attacking midfielder. The Brazilian’s arrival will delight Ruben Amorim, who loves dynamic players.
Monster In Transition

In transition, very few attackers in the Premier League outperform Matheus Cunha. In the 2024/25 league campaign, Wolverhampton Wanderers ranked fourth for most goals on counterattacks—and Manchester United’s new signing served as their most critical cog in that department.
Manchester United have secured a top player approaching his prime. He fits the club’s identity on the pitch and aligns perfectly with the manager’s tactics. If the Mancunians can sign one more forward who tick all the boxes like Cunha, Ruben Amorim and Manchester United might be on a revival run next season.
