- Chelsea and Napoli In Talks To Find Solution For Romelu Lukaku And Also A Potential Loan Move For Victor Osimhen
Earlier today, The Athletic, via NYtimes reported that Chelsea are in talks with Napoli over a deal that will see Romelu Lukaku join Napoli permanently, and Victor Osimhen move to West London on an initial loan deal with an option to buy next summer.
Hours later, Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Napoli will not let their most prized assets (Osimhen) leave on loan, but will demand at least £60million plus Romelu Lukaku.
Osimhen’s agent Roberto Calenda has also rubbished rumors surrounding his client’s proposed loan move to the Premier League. He termed the rumours “fantasy exchanges” and “fake news”.
The Nigerian striker will leave Napoli this summer with PSG and Chelsea leading the race for his signature. However, both clubs deem the 25-year-old’s €130m release clause to be too expensive.
While there is still no clear destination for Victor Osimhen this summer, let’s talk about why he should reject a loan move to Chelsea this summer.
He Can Do Much Better
Osimhen was the 8th best player in the world in 2023. African Footballer of the year in the same year, and the man that fired Napoli to their third ever Scudetto. He can join a better team than what Chelsea currently have. He can do better in terms of both the structure of deal and the club he is joining.
Also, a loan move without an obligation to buy could backfire badly and decrease Osimhen’s value if he struggles in his first year in England.
Romelu Lukaku excelled under Conte in the Serie A, but struggled at Chelsea, and we can say that for so many strikers over the years at the London club.
A loan move to a club like Chelsea without obligation to buy exposes Osimhen to a lot of negative possibilities if he does not hit certain figures.
Finally, At 25, the Nigerian International should be looking for projects that will take his career to the next level. Ambitious projects aimed at winning big trophies like the UEFA Champions League, and more league titles, and Chelsea do not look like that team at the moment.
