Gareth Bale has announced that he will leave Real Madrid this season after 9 successful years with the Los Blancos. Bale joined Real Madrid from Spurs in 2013 as an established talent who was ready to conquer the World. Well, he did do well with Real Madrid, but will club fans consider him a Real Madrid legend in the same vein as his former attacking partners Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema?

Bale joined Real Madrid for a fee, believed to be around €100M. The Welshman initially struggled in the Spanish capital, but he found his form. Forming a formidable partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema (BBC) helped him understand the Spanish game faster.

Bale played a vital role in winning Real Madrid’s (La Decima) 10th UEFA Champions League. The former Spurs man scored in extra time to give Real Madrid the lead against Atletico Madrid in the final.

Gareth Bale and Zidane..

However, things started changing under Zinedine Zidane. He didn’t play that much under the French manager. This began a bad run, on and off the pitch for the Welshman. Still, Gareth Bale continued to contribute whenever he was called upon by Zidane. His UEFA Champions League final goal against Liverpool in 2018 will also stand out as one of his best for the Spanish giants.

Taunting Real Madrid fans, unprofessional behaviour on the bench, and his “fake injuries” at Real Madrid did a lot to smear his relationship with Real Madrid fans.

Despite all his errors and problems at Real Madrid, Bale definitely contributed to an era where Real Madrid won 4 UCL trophies in 6 seasons.

Can he be considered a Real Madrid legend? Will he ever be remembered like Karim Benzema or Cristiano Ronaldo?
