With the summer 2025 transfer window open, Manchester United’s manager, Ruben Amorim, is on a mission to sign a top striker to elevate the Red Devils’ attack for the 2025-26 season.
Three players are in focus: Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen, and Hugo Ekitike. Here’s why these strikers are on United’s radar and how they could transform the team.
Viktor Gyokeres

Viktor Gyokeres is Amorim’s top target, and their history at Sporting CP makes this a compelling fit. From 2022 to 2024, Amorim coached Gyokeres at Sporting, transforming him into a goal-scoring machine.
Under Amorim’s high-pressing 3-4-3 system, Gyokeres thrived, scoring 54 goals in 56 games this season (as of June 2025). Their shared understanding of tactics and trust—built through two title-winning campaigns in Portugal—gives United an edge. Gyokeres’ lethal finishing and physicality make him ideal for Old Trafford.
Sporting’s £80 million release clause could drop to £60 million, but Arsenal and Chelsea are also in the race. At 26, Gyokeres could be United’s long-term attacking leader.
Victor Osimhen

Osimhen just enjoyed a prolific season on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, 37 goals in 41 games this season. The 26-year-old Nigerian, who rejected three offers from Al Hilal to stay in Europe, brings power and clinical finishing.
Napoli’s £70 million valuation is steep, but a summer move is feasible via a break clause. Despite interest from Chelsea and PSG, Osimhen’s ability to dominate defenses could make him United’s focal point.
Hugo Ekitike

Hugo Ekitike, the 23-year-old PSG striker, has notched 22 goals this season. His pace and potential align with Amorim’s vision, but a €100 million fee feels excessive for a player still proving himself. A lower price could make Ekitike a smart long-term investment for United.
United’s attack has struggled for consistency, and Amorim needs a clinical forward to challenge rivals like Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City. There is no doubt that the likes of Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund are not good enough to take the club to their desired destination.
