Real Madrid lose again against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena to bow out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage for the second season in a row. Eduardo Camavinga’s decisions aided Bayern Munich to a 4–3 win on the night and a 6–4 victory on aggregate.

Real Madrid started like a house on fire on the night thanks to an awfully placed pass from Manuel Neuer in the first minute of the game. Arda Güler was on hand to catch the experienced German goalkeeper out and score after just a few seconds to give Real Madrid the lead and level the tie on aggregate.

However, Bayern Munich never looked fazed despite the pressure of conceding early in front of their fans. Kompany’s men earned an equalizer as Pavlović headed home to level the score on the night from a corner kick. Bayern and Real Madrid showcased their quality by scoring two goals to hook their UCL fans after just 10 minutes.

What followed Bayern’s equalizer was a series of brilliant attacks from Bayern and swift counterattacks from Real Madrid. One of those Real Madrid runs directly led to a free kick near the edge of the box. Arda Güler stepped up to curl home a brilliant set piece to restore Madrid’s lead just before the half-hour mark.

Harry Kane equalized for Bayern Munich after Dayot Upamecano played a brilliant pass into the box, and Kylian Mbappé scored again for Madrid just before half-time to give them the lead once again on the night and level the aggregate score.

Both sides controlled and measured much of the second half. Real Madrid looked to catch Bayern Munich out, and Bayern also stayed patient in their build-up as they did not want to leave space at the back by overcommitting against attackers like Vinícius and Mbappé.

Camavinga came on just after the hour mark to shore up Real Madrid’s midfield and give them more cover, but subbing on the Frenchman turned out to be detrimental to Real Madrid. Camavinga picked up his first yellow card in the 79th minute, and he received his second yellow just a few minutes later.

Bayern immediately capitalized on that one-man advantage as Luis Díaz curled home the equalizer on the night, and Michael Olise scored the winner on the night and added gloss to the aggregate result to dump Real Madrid out of the UCL.

Real Madrid will now go this season without winning a trophy, except they are able to overturn a 9-point lead in La Liga with seven matches to go.
