Chelsea v Tottenham– The Blues Cruised To A 2-0 Victory At Home Against Spurs.
Tuchel Changed Chelsea’s Shape.
Thomas Tuchel had to deal with late COVID concerns for Thiago Silva and N’golo Kante ahead of Spurs visit to Stamford Bridge. He opted to start Saul Niguez alongside Jorginho and that move proved correct.
Chelsea confidently and comfortably dispatched Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge to put themselves in the best position ahead of their second leg at Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium.
Chelsea v Tottenham Match Summary
The Blues secured a 2-0 win in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final clash against Tottenham at Stamford Bridge. An early strike from Kai Havertz and an own goal from Ben Davies has put the Blues in command of the tie heading into the second leg.
Thomas Tuchel’s men could have scored more goals to make the second leg more comfortable but lacked a cutting edge in the final third in the second half.
However, Chelsea are well placed in their bid to advance to the EFL Cup final, while Tottenham can be thankful they are not completely out of the tie.
Tuchel’s Tactics
Tuchel revealed after the game that he had to switch to a back four because Thiago Silva was unavailable. Malang Sarr had a very good game as he was very calm throughout the match.
The French defender even tried to advance with the ball just like Anthony Rudiger. Rudiger also led the defense effectively against the likes of Harry Kane and Son.
Tuchel had to start Jorginho because Kante was not available. The Italian dictated the play alongside Saul Niguez in midfield. Saul was one of Chelsea`s best players against Spurs and fans noticed the Spaniard is getting comfortable in Tuchel’s system.
Marcos Alonso also had cover from Malang Sarr and that allowed him to create 5 chances for Chelsea.
Tottenham were not allowed to play especially in the first half, Chelsea dominated everything and deserved their two goals.
Chelsea will still play Tottenham twice this month, but Antonio Conte and Spurs will hope not to make the other ties as easy as this one was for Chelsea.
