Liverpool In Control After 3-1 Win In Portugal
Match report Manchester City 1-0 Atletico Madrid
Manchester City grab a 1-0 win against a very stubborn Atletico side. The Citizens never looked like scoring until De Bruyne shot at goal in the 70th minute.
It was a tight game from the start – a very tactical match that almost went Diego Simeone’s way. Manchester City failed to create anything tangible in the first half. They had an expected goal (xG) of 0.21 – that was how cagey the tactics was from Diego Simeone.
The second half started the same way. Although Atletico found themselves on the break a couple time, but they could not take advantage. Introducing Jack Grealish, and Phil Foden changed things for Pep Guardiola’s men. Foden was only on for 72 seconds before he slipped a clever pass for Kevin De bruyne who expertly placed the ball past Jan Oblak, and into the net. City struggled to create anything else after their goal, and Atletico were poor in attack.
Diego Simeone’s men are not out of this tie. The second leg next week in Spain offers another chance for them.

Match Report
Early goals from Ibrahima Konate and Sadio Mane had Liverpool in total control at half-time but Benfica capitalized on a sloppy start to the second half by the visitors, with Darwin Nunez pulling a goal back to breathe fresh life into the tie. Instead, with three minutes remaining, Diaz seized on a through ball from Naby Keita to restore Liverpool’s two-goal advantage heading into next week’s second leg at Anfield. —
