Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta is very close to agreeing on a summer move to Barcelona. The Spanish defender’s contract at Chelsea will end this summer and there have been rumors that he will not renew with Chelsea.

Barcelona have since swept in to accelerate talks with the Chelsea captain. Azpilicueta has previously stated that he is currently focusing on his time at Chelsea. Hinting that he wants to remain at the club beyond this summer. However, he is in negotiations with Barcelona over a two-year deal.

Azpilicueta has been at Chelsea since the 2012/13 season. Chelsea signed Azpilicueta from Olympic Marseille in France for just 7M. “Dave” (as he is commonly referred to at Stamford Bridge) has been consistent for Chelsea over the years, playing in different positions for the club. He has won the Premier League twice and also won the UCL last year with Chelsea.

Azpilicueta will bring a lot of experience to Barcelona if the deal goes through. Chelsea will need to rebuild their defense this summer. Azpilicueta, Alonso, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen might all leave Chelsea this year. Thiago Silva has signed a one-year extension at Chelsea, but he is a 37-year-old, and he will leave Chelsea after the 2022-23 season.

Chelsea will also try to bring in a couple of defenders including Bayern Munich’s Niklas Sule who will be available for free in the summer.
