Carballes Baena stunned 2nd seed Matteo Berrettini in a 3-Set thriller at the Firenze Open, winning 5-7 7-6 (7-5) 7-5 in the Round 2. Roberto Carballes Baena came back from one set down to beat the second seed 5-7 7-6 (7-5) 7-5 after 3 hours and 19 minutes at the Florence Open. 

Carballes Baena Stuns Matteo Berrettini on Home Soil

Berrettini was the first to strike in the seventh game to take a 5-3 lead. Baena saved three break points before breaking back at deuce in the 10th game to get back on serve for 5-5. Berrettini broke in the 11th game and easily served to love to edge Carballes Baena 7-5 in a thrilling set that spanned for 75 minutes. 

Like in the first set, The Spaniard went down a break again but this time in the first game of the second set, but he fought back by winning four games to take a 4-2 lead. Berrettini pulled back the break to set up a tie-break. Carballes Baena came back from 2-4 down to win the tie-break 7-5 forcing the match to the decisive set.  In the third set, Berrettini seemed on the verge of victory when the Italian went up 5-2 but Carballes Baena Surprisingly won five games in a row to win 5-7, 7-6 (5), 7-5 and by so doing, silenced the passionate crowd.

The Spaniard is presently ranked 80th in world. By beating Matteo, Carballes will appear in his first quarter-final on Hardcourt when he faces Swedish Qualifier Ymer Mikael after he defeated fifth-seeded Aslan Karatsev 6-1,6-7(6), 6-1. Carballes also got his first top-20 hard court win.
