Real Madrid opened their La Liga campaign against UD Almeria with a hard fought win.

The champions have their first win of the new season, but they were made to work so, so hard for it! A resolute performance from Almeria almost gave Madrid an almighty scare with that early goal, but Los Blancos had a mountain of chances and eventually turned the game on its head through those second-half strikes from Vazquez and Alaba. Real were good going forward, but Almeria’s excellent defensive performance almost blunted their star-studded attack, in a game with plenty of positives for both sides. @Fotmob.

Real Madrid had to dig deep to get this victory over Almeria, but thanks to David Alaba’s brilliance they prevailed. Even with their midweek exertions they were still able to find a way past new boys Almeria. Carlo Ancelotti is instilling a high level of consistency into his side and that will come in handy this season.

Real Madrid were able to start with a victory away from home, but Rayo Vallecano frustrated Barcelona at home on Saturday. The Catalans equaled a record of not scoring in consecutive home league matches for the first time since 2003. For Barça and Real Madrid, it is far too early to tell how they’ll perform this season, but Los Blancos have started well.

Elsewhere, Sevilla lost their first match of the season against Osasuna on Friday, but Villarreal started with a convincing 3-0 away win against Real Valladolid on Saturday.
