David De Gea announced his decision to leave Manchester United after 12 years as his contract at the club expired this summer. Despite some recent low points, the Spaniard will go down as one of the greatest Premier League goalkeepers. Certainly a Man United legend.

De Gea arrived in 2011 and after a rough first season, he rediscovered his form to help the Red Devils take back control of the Premier League in 2013. His performances earned him a spot in the team of the season and he never looked back.

Top 3 De Gea moments for Manchester United

1. Performance against Everton in 2014

De Gea made a multitude of crucial saves for United as they clinched a 2-1 win and earned back-to-back victories under Louis van Gaal.

First, he denied Leighton Baines from the penalty spot becoming the first ever Premier League goalkeeper to do so.

Crucially, he secured the points for United by denying Bryan Oviedo’s long-range effort in stoppage time with an outstanding outstretched save.

2. Man of the Match performance against Arsenal in 2017

De Gea was once again at his absolute best repelling everything the Gunners threw at him.

He helped United to a famous 3-1 victory at the Emirates and made 14 saves in the match, a PL record.

3. Surpassing the clean sheets record set by club legend Peter Schmeichel

The 31-year-old was instrumental last season as Erik ten Hag’s men won the Carabao Cup.

The Red Devils defeated Newcastle 2-0 in the final and that clean sheet earned De Gea his 181st in a United jersey, surpassing the great Peter Schmeichel.
