- The Premier League Leaders Are Out of the Europa League
- Manchester United, Roma, Juventus, Feyenoord and Sevilla all book Quarter-final spots.
The Gunners now have only the Premier League to focus on after crashing out of the Europa League last night following a penalty shoot-out defeat at home against Sporting Lisbon.
The Gunners started the game well, but an early injury to Tomiyasu might have affected the psyche of some Arsenal stars. Still, the Gunners took the lead through Granit Xhaka who tucked away a rebound for the opener. Just two minutes later, the Gunners were dealt another injury blow when William Saliba limped off. Arsenal were not able to put some distance between themselves and an impressive Sporting Lisbon side.
The Portuguese side shocked the whole of the Emirates when Pedro Gonçalves spotted Ramsdale off his line and smashed a precise effort to beat the Arsenal goalkeeper from 46-yards out. 1-1. Even with players like Bukayo Saka and Partey coming on to help get a win, Arsenal could not break Sporting even after 90 minutes and extra-time. Gabriel Martinelli missed the crucial spot-kick to send the Gunners out of the Europa League.
All Focus On The Premier League Now
In the disappointment of being knocked out of the Europa League last night, Arsenal players now know they have to give their all in the remaining 11 Premier League matches if they don’t want to end the season trophyless. With Manchester City hot on their heels just 5 points away, any slip up from the Gunners could prove deadly at this point.
