Europa League – Manchester United bounced back from their embarrassing defeat at the hands of Liverpool with a commendable win over Spanish side Real Betis. The Mancunians needed to make a statement with their performance after enduring their most humiliating EPL defeat on Sunday, and they did. Goals from Rashford, Antony, Bruno Fernandes and also striker Wout Weghorst gave United a 4-1 advantage ahead of the second leg in Seville next week.
The Red Devils wasted no time to get their first goal with a thumping finish inside the box from star man Marcus Rashford after a loose interception from a Betis defender. Former Leicester man Ayoze Pérez equalized for Betis, but he could’ve had more from two errors made by David de Gea.
Antony also added the second with his signature move from the right-hand side, curling the ball well beyond Claudio Bravo. Shortly after, Bruno Fernandes added a third with a smart header, before Wout Weghorst sealed the win with a finish from close range on the rebound.
The Perfect response for Manchester United, as they have no time to dwell on their disappointing performance over the weekend. Manager Erik ten Hag was also pleased with his team’s character after beating Real Betis;
“It was a great attitude, we were good on the ball, made good switches and runs in behind and created a lot of chances. It is always good to see how the team reacts after a setback. This is not the first time this season we can reset and bounce back. This team has character, so a big compliment to the team.”
