  • What The Brazilian Will Add To Manchester United

Manchester United have agreed a fee for Ajax’s Brazilian star Antony Matheus. The saga is now nearing an end, and the Brazilian will be in Manchester to complete a deal next week.

Erik Ten Hag has made it clear that Manchester United will not just sign any player. Manchester United have to get the right players to implement his style and idea of football. Adding Antony to the ranks at Manchester United was important because of the tactical possibilities he can achieve with the Brazilian.

Ten Hag loves technical players, players who are excellent on the ball and can create from anywhere on the pitch. Someone like Lisandro Martinez, who can pick a perfect pass from defense. Someone like Frenkie De Jong who is capable of finding the right pass and also has excellent movement on and off the ball; new Manchester signing Antony is another.

The Brazilian embodies everything Ten Hag loves in an attacker. Pace, directness, creativity, and technique. Antony will add more attacking prowess to the Manchester United squad and improve the right-wing significantly. He could form a thriving partnership with Diogo Dalot down the right-hand side of Manchester United’s defense. More importantly, he’ll be part of a fluid front three.

It could be with Rashford and Martial or Martial and Sancho, but Ten Hag wants a pacey and energetic front three that will be able to press efficiently.

Antony is an exciting player already, but at just 22, he will only continue to improve. Antony has been highly productive at Ajax with 24 goals and 22 assists in 84 appearances.

How dominant Antony can be on the right side of attack

Last season, he averaged a goal every 217 minutes in all competitions. That stat fails to show that Antony ranks in the top 1% of wingers when it comes to goal-creating actions (1.57) per 90 minutes. The Brazilian also created 7 big chances with his excellent passing last season. In comparison, that’s 2 more than Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez, and just one shy of Bernardo Silva with 8.

What Fans Can Expect

Antony Matheus is not going to shoulder all the creative problems for Manchester United in attack, he is not Kevin De Bruyne. (In comparison, De Bruyne created 16 big chances alone for Manchester City last season, and already has 5 this campaign

However, he will complement the efforts of midfielders like Fernandes and Eriksen. He will also dominate the right wing for Manchester United and his tricks and turns will just be cherries on top of a potentially big cake.
