The Rockets and Kevin Durant plan for Houston to be his final NBA stop, according to NBA insider Shams Charania.
Kevin Durant is only under contract with the Houston Rockets for the 2025-26 NBA season, but both the future Hall of Famer and his new team expect their partnership to extend beyond that.
On The Pat McAfee Show, ESPN insider Shams Charania emphasized that all parties envision Houston as the final stop in Durant’s storied career. The former MVP and 15-time All-Star, who turns 37 in September, appears committed to the Rockets’ long-term vision.
"Kevin Durant had a lot of voice in this and he made it clear where he wanted to go..

Charania revealed that Durant and the Rockets are poised to discuss a contract extension soon, potentially at a discounted rate. “I do expect Kevin Durant, his business manager, Rich Kleiman, and the Rockets to have formal discussions on an extension,” Charania told McAfee. “I don’t know if it’ll be this week, but I expect at some point in July or August, that’s a conversation that will happen. Kevin Durant is eligible for, I think, a two-year, $121-million extension. But will it be all of that, or a part of that? It would not surprise me to see… Kevin Durant is approaching this as a partnership. There’s a goal on both sides to end his career in Houston.”
With Durant’s two-time championship pedigree and the Rockets’ ambitions, this collaboration signals a shared commitment to success, potentially culminating in Durant retiring as a Rocket.
