- Barcelona sign João Cancelo on loan with option to buy
Barcelona have reached an agreement with Manchester City for the transfer of João Cancelo. The Portuguese will join the Catalans on a season long loan with a buy-option for next summer. Barcelona have been negotiating with Manchester City since the start of the summer, and the deal will be signed today.
João Cancelo is out of favour at Manchester City after falling out with Pep Guardiola last season. The former Juventus man spent the later part of last season on loan at Bayern Munich before returning to the treble winners in the summer.
João Cancelo’s time at Manchester City has been nothing short of impressive, despite his problems with Pep Guardiola. Since joining the club in 2019 from Juventus, the Portuguese full-back has established himself as a key component of Pep Guardiola’s system.
Known for his exceptional technical skills, versatility, and attacking prowess. His ability to contribute both defensively and offensively has been crucial in City’s success, creating chances, making runs, and also solid defensive contributions. Cancelo’s performances have earned him recognition as one of the best full-backs in the world, and he will be a solid addition to Barça’s squad.
Cancelo’s current contract expires in June 2027, he will be looking to impress Xavi, on the pitch in order to make the financially troubled club make his move permanent next year.
