Arsenal and Manchester United came into this match knowing that a victory will aid their chances of playing in the UEFA Champions League next season. However, it was clear from the start that Arsenal wanted it more.

Manchester United fashioned a couple of chances and Diogo Dalot came closest with his shot, hitting the crossbar. Eddie Nketiah, who scored twice for Arsenal against Chelsea, thought he had notched his third goal in two matches when he slotted the ball past De Gea after Saka released him. However, his goal was ruled out for offside. Arsenal were awarded a penalty which Saka converted.
United responded two minutes later. Nemanja Matic found Cristiano Ronaldo in the box with a sumptuous cross. Cristiano notched one back for Manchester United – scoring his 100th Premier League goal.
Manchester United could have drawn level after the were awarded a penalty in the second half. However, Bruno Fernandes’s strike could only hit the bottom left post.
With the game still at 2-1, Manchester United kept creating chances. Cristiano Ronaldo headed one in but was ruled out for offside.
Arsenal made the game safe with 20 minutes to go. Granit Xhaka struck home after Bruno Fernandes lost possession at the edge of the box.
That settled the nerves of many Arsenal fans. The Gunners are now back in fourth position, at least till Tottenham will play against Brentford.
